Kind words of praise about the Butcher Boy album

"That Butcher Boy record is FANTASTIC!!! Thank you so so so much for sending it out to me earlier... I've been listening to it all day long. I can't believe what a great voice John has... for so many years I've always just seen the John, the wonderful and amazingly nice and charming Indie Pop DJ in him but now that personality of him has been enriched... god, I love this record! THANKS AGAIN!"

"I recieved the Butcher Boy album today and I absolutley love it already."

"I got the album last Friday, and I haven't listened to anything else (apart from a few Silver Jews tracks) the last week - this album is aboslutely amazing."

"I cannot stop listening to 'Girls Make Me Sick' . I listened to it ever since I got my paws on it last Friday. Over and over again. It is SO FUCKIN' GOOD. The keyboards, the piano, the bass...I also like all the mentions of body parts, particularly knees. I want to fly John and co. over to Chicago just to hear this track live."

"Profit in Your Poetry is absolutely brilliant. Really, really good. It's early, but I think It's going to be one of the best of the year."

"It’s a great album. Going to be hard for HDIF003 to top."

"Received the Butcher Boy album yesterday I'll probably need that magic third listen before I can accurately review it.
However on the first one and a half listens I can give it a big thumbs up. It felt like eavesdropping on a strange whisper of a world. Enticingly tender yet possibly savage."

"The Butcher Boy record is brilliant! I was amazed by the refined sound - the first songs quickly hit me at heart! Incredible lyrics too and that voice, that angelic voice, oh dear! Dare to say Butcher Boy debut album is better than Tindersticks or Felt debut ones!!! I know I may disappoint Tindersticks or Felt fans but I can’t help it. I don’t remember when it was the last time I heard such brilliant lyrics (possibly since I listened to The Queen is Dead or Strangeways for the first time or Liberte Belle by Go-betweens, maybe). To get an idea about the beautiful lyrics you should simply register into National Pop League yahoo mailing list and read some of the thank-you notes that John sends out after every NPL club night. John is a master of poetic lyrics. After all he could have been a fantastic poet…and he is definitely one of the humblest, friendliest and sweetest guys I’ve ever met. I think what encapsulates Butcher Boy’s music is the three constant images that have been stuck in my head throughout the year: Swirling cotton like clouds, Cold, cathartic needles of rain, and Flickering rays of sunshine throught the parallelogram window frames (not necessarily in this order…..) I am relying on Butcher Boy to get me through the winter...And I strongly believe that this is a masterpiece!!!"

"Thanks so much. I have received the album and listened to it - raptly - twice in a row, and am now leaving it overnight. It sounds fantastic, as I expected."

"A quick line to say thanks for the Butcher Boy album. It's absolutely brilliant and has been making us feel very gooey round these parts (Days Like These...being the favourite)."

"Got the CD this weekend, Thanks! It's really great. I keep playing it on repeat."

"I'm *totally* playing it loud at work..., song number one now. Success! Everyone, that is to say three people, all said that it was "very, very, very good." One stated that it was "a bit like R.E.M., wasn't it?". And when it was finished another one said, "you don't have any other CDs, do you Anders?". "No, I'm sorry", I said, and he replied "Maybe we should play this again?" To which everyone said "Yes, it was very, very, very good". And they asked for the name of the guy who was singing again. "His name is Butcher Boy", I said. I'm the new office DJ, like."

"I had completely went beserk at the end of last year and bought way too many CDs. I've just got round to giving this album the proper listen it deserves. I've played it 5 times today while I've been marking finals tests. It is fantastic. God, what melodies and what an accomplished voice. Why didn't I play it earlier?"

"This album has grown on me so much. I love love love it."

"One of the best debut albums I've heard in years. I hope you're all proud of yourselves, as you all deserve a pat on the back"
